PCOS Diet with Pregnancy?
by admin on Apr.09, 2010, under Pregnancy
I was recently diagnosed after 4 years of unsucssesfully concieving, with PCOS. After a regimen of metformin and clomid i sucessfully achieved pregnancy. My Doctor tells me even though i dont yet have gestational diabetes he wants me to follow a diet plan for it due to Insulin resistance with the pcos. My first baby (before i got PCOS) was large at 9.1lbs and a very traumatizing experience. My Doctor tells me this may happen again with a large baby if im not careful due to the insulin problem. Can anyone suggest a good diet plan who may have gone through the same thing i have? I would like to have as close to a “Normal” weight baby as i can and be healthy. Please if you have any information on a good diet to follow while pregnant with insulin resistance/pcos let me know. Thanks in advance
My doctor suggested Low Carb/high protein. But how many carbs should i try to maintain a day?

Does unsweetened yogurt still have sugar?
by admin on Jan.28, 2010, under Other - Food & Drink
I need to start a diet to compensate for insulin resistance and unsweetened yogurt is on my list. EVERY yogurt I looked at, even plain, had sugar, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, aspartame or other chemical sweetener.
So does all yogurt have sweetener or is there actually a type of yogurt that has no sugar at all?
Stevia is a sweetener, so is splenda, etc. I am not supposed to be having added sweeteners.

PCOS, insulin resistance, metformin and told to watch my carbs?
by admin on Aug.29, 2009, under Animal Products
So the doc tells me it doesn’t seem like the meds are working because i have not changed my diet. So i have eliminated the sweet tea that i was raised on but what now? I look up carb counts and find that everything has carbs. I love grapes and i see that they are high in carbs but i think they would be “good carbs” right but does that matter with my situation? Can i have good carbs like from fruits and veggies? I really just don’t know what i can eat other than meat. Any suggestions?!
i take 2000mgs a day been at full dosage for about a month and a half but have not seen a period yet

Pregnant with PCOS and concerned about miscarriage?
by admin on Aug.13, 2009, under Pregnancy
I discovered recently that I am pregnant. I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this year and put on Metformin 1000mg daily. I also started the insulin resistance diet and lost 25 pounds. My concern is that I am not 6 weeks pregnant and my symptoms seem to come and go. My nipples are sometimes sore and I occationally feel lightheaded/dizzy but more often than not, I feel nothing. I’m very concerned because women with PCOS have a higher rate of miscarriage. Additionally, my dr told me to discontinue the metformin when I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks. Anyone experienced something similar and all turned out fine?

Know of a good way to get rid of belly fat if you are insulin resistant?
by admin on Jul.14, 2009, under Diet & Fitness
My doctor recently (as in a few days ago) diagnosed me with insulin resistance due to PCOS and put me on 500mg Metformin once daily. I’m only a little overweight and work out daily, and went on a low carb diet. My question is, how do I get rid of this stubborn belly fat? I currently do 15 minutes on and exercise bike and 15 minutes of ab targeted pilates daily, is there something else I should be doing to get rid of the belly fat? I’m skinny everywhere else, so I don’t know what else to do!

What are foods that are ok for people with insulin resistance?
by admin on Jul.03, 2009, under Trying to Conceive
I have PCOS and am insulin resistant and overweight. I’m trying very hard to lose weight , but It seems that every website I look up has a different opinion. I rarely eat meat, and when I do it’s only chicken or fish. I love fruits and most veggies, but so many fruits are “high glycemic” and one website said I shouldn’t eat fruits without also eating protein and to not eat too much. I’m so confused and I don’t know what I can eat and can’t eat (except for the obvious, no sweets, processed foods, soda, etc). My doctor didn’t mention anything about how to eat and I’m making an appointment with a nutrionist as soon as I can, but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas as to what’s the most important factor in changing diet.
Thanks!!

Need specialty diet help please?
by admin on May.06, 2009, under Diet & Fitness
I have pcos with insulin resistance and am taking metformin. When my doc first put me on it he told me it might not be neccessary to change my diet but the meds arent working and he says i need to limit my carbs. So what CAN i eat??? Can i eat healthy carbs, ie carrots, grapes, etc?
i was raised drinking nothing but sweet tea so i have already (painfully) eliminated that… would that be enough to jumpstart the meds?

Treating Insulin Resistance the natural way?
by admin on May.02, 2009, under Blood Sugar Meter
I have PCOS and I.R. and have taken all the drugs used to treat and nothing has helped long term. Has anyone had any luck with anything natural? What diet, if any, has worked for you?

Shouldn’t there be more than just vegetarian alternatives?
by admin on Mar.21, 2009, under Diet & Fitness
It’s a law that places like schools have to provide “vegetarian alternatives” and most restaurants do the same, though I’m not sure it’s required unless it’s a state run business. Thing is, shouldn’t they have to provide an alternative for people who AREN’T carb freaks? There are people with a lifestyle that requires mainly meat, and I’m not talking breaded and deep fried. Vegetarianism is a lifestyle, but some people are on low carb/all meat diets because of health problems like Insulin Resistance and Type II diabetes, and still others are just like the vegetarians; they just have a lifestyle. So we have to give people who claim killing an animal is “murder” special privileges (Please look up the definition of murder. There is nothing about animals.) but what about people with other lifestyles? A vegetarian wouldn’t eat veggies with meat on them, so a follower of low carb shouldn’t have to eat meat coated with bread. So shouldn’t there be a low carb/all meat alternative?
Grammatical error: “animal” should be “animals” …Damn typos…
To the first person who answered: If they’re not doing it because they think it’s healthy, then they’re doing it just because they think killing animals for food is wrong.
I’m not posting this to bash the vegetarian lifestyle. If you think it’s healthy and for you, fine. I’m posting this because there are OTHER lifestyles that need to be considered and have allowances made for them, not just that one…
